Athletic upgrades include plans for much-needed restroom facilities

With the lack of bathrooms, softball, baseball, soccer players and their fans either have the choice of using one of the available porta-potties or “holding it” until better options arise.

“I knew it was a problem, even though no one has came and complained to me, but let’s be realistic. We have porta-potties. It’s embarrassing, it truly is. I feel like if we’re truly trying to be a first-class facility and program we have to have bathrooms,” Athletic Director Mr. Jason Feuerbach said.

Feuerbach plans to start fundraising as soon as possible for plumbing bathrooms.

“What we’re looking into is a couple things later this spring that will unroll next year. One of the projects being bathrooms [and a] snackbar in the circle between varsity softball, varsity baseball and JV baseball. We want to build something for people to use that has running water. In a perfect world, that’s what we would have,” Feuerbach said.

Varsity baseball player Sean Sullivan sees this as an opportunity to make the athletic facilities here a better location for players and fans in practice and during games.

“I think that putting real bathrooms out there will be nice. It can only help make teams a little happier when they come play us,” Sullivan said.

Feuerbach is helping to form an Athletic Booster Club to help with the facilities and fundraising for big projects.

“The goal would be that we have them in a year or two, if the booster club gets going. Hopefully we can get enough money raised and get them put in next summer. We’re trying everything we can. We’re going to the school district to see if we can sell naming rights to like the varsity softball field, so if you wanted it to be the ‘Jason Feuerbach Softball Field’ you would pay a certain amount per year. So we’re trying to fundraise money in bigger amounts to help offset some of these projects,” Feuerbach said.

Varsity softball player Hannah Peck is happy Feuerbach has plans to update the facilities.

“Feuerbach’s idea is good, I’m glad he’s planning on putting them right between all the fields in the middle of everything. It’s annoying right now, not having any sanitary options,” Peck said.

Along with the bathroom and snack bar, Feuerbach also has another project planned for the spring sports programs.

“The next project is a storage unit right by the softball batting cages that has roll-up doors for outdoor sports to store their stuff,” Feuerbach said.

He estimates that the cost for the bathrooms and snackbar building will cost between $40,000-50,000 and about $80,000-$100,000 for both projects.

Feuerbach said, “We’re going to need to put in sewer and running water because we don’t want pit-toilets, that would be gross. The goal is to get both of those done as soon as possible, where they look nice but are also sturdy and will last until I leave or die.”
