Girls’ JV basketball ends their season with a win
The girls’ JV basketball team beat Antelope 39-34 on Feb. 16. Which would end their season with 7 wins and 7 losses.
“Moving into a new league definitely changed things in terms of competitiveness. There’s more higher level teams compared to who we had to play last year and we’ve had to adjust to the competition,” Kourtney Nham said.
The girls’ JV team struggled at the start of the season with a new head coach but quickly adapted to the new league with their new head coach, Joseph Kim. Coming into a school as a new coach with a more challenging league proved to be a challenge when the girls’ injuries started to affect their game quality.
“We had some injuries and illnesses early on, but once we weathered that and was able to get everyone on the same page we started to play some really good basketball,” Kim said.
With many returning players from the girls’ freshman team last year, the girls entered their season confident.
“Having a different coach and learning from his coaching has definitely been the biggest obstacle this year. He has totally different plays and he teaches differently compared to last year’s coach,” Isabella Lasmarias said.
Kim trained the girls to use skill and fundamental drills to strengthen each player individually, along with focusing on the girls’ mental side of playing on the court.
“The greatest accomplishment the girls’ have had this season is getting stronger as a team and competing strongly in every game,” said Kim.
