“Project Almanac”, directed by Dean Israelite, introduced new faces into the Hollywood world such as Jonny Weston, Sofia Black D’Elia and Sam Lerner. The 106 minute movie didn’t entertain me as much as I had expected it to.

The trailer, released in March of 2014, gave off hopeless excitement for a thrilling adventure where a group of friends would time travel, but instead the movie was confusing to the point where it seemed choppy.

The movie starts off by introducing David, a senior in high school, Weston who is interested in science and making videos with his friends. Throughout the movie, David and his friends discover a time machine that was built by his father.

As expected, the teens use the time machine to travel back in time to attend music festivals or to make people fall in love with them. In one of the scenes, the group of friends travel back to a music festival where David persistently tries to get together with one of the other main characters. The good vibes change when David uses the time machine to his own benefit and ends up changing the course of history, hurting society around him. The scenes were uninteresting and could have been more relevant considering the audience was just watching teenagers partying at a festival.

Although the movie had an interesting pitch, missing even a second of the film would get you easily confused. The acting also came off flat and there were a lot of blank, boring parts such as irrelevant dialogue throughout the entire movie. The director could have done a better job making the plot more clear and straightforward.

The only visual aspect of the movie that I enjoyed were the parts when the group of friends used the time machine. The special effects made it look realistic as they made their way back into time.

Although it seemed like a great movie for young adults, the movie was too dry and confusing at times. Only in the end when David was destroying the time machine did the plot finally make sense. If you like science based movies this movie is definitely for you, but it takes patience to understand the plot as the movie plays along. To me, “Project Almanac” was not worth seeing and spending money on.
