Top 5 movies I watched in 2013

2013 has been an amazing, action packed, love filled year with some really amazing movies.

1. The Purge

The first movie that really stuck with me throughout the year was The Purge. The movie takes place in the future, where poverty barely exists, and wealth is spread throughout the U.S. Though, not everything is great about that future. The Purge is a day where any and all crime is legalized for a twelve-hour period. On the night plagued with bloodshed and a pandemic of crime, the story follows a family that is held hostage of a murderous syndicate during the Purge. The movie really interested me, because the movie makes you think a lot about our society. If the Purge was a real event that happened, it would be chaos. The movie really shows the details of what would happen to people and how insane they would get just so that they could kill their neighbor, or anybody. The saying, “You can run, but you can’t hide” really applies to this movie. This action packed movie was definitely worth to see last year.

2. World War Z

The second movie that I loved last year was World War Z. The movie follows former United Nations employee Gerry Lane, and his family escape New York from the overrun city filled with hungry zombies. After barely getting out alive, and riding on a battleship, Gerry Lane has to go investigate where the zombie infection first started and if he can find a cure, before the human race becomes extinct. World War Z was a very action filled movie. Comparing this movie to the countless zombie movies, is that Gerry Lane and his crew had guns and could fight off the zombies easily, but the zombies were a lot faster than other zombies in other movies. Overall, World War Z was a different kind of zombie movie that I liked.

3. Warm Bodies

I sort of have a thing for zombies, and the third movie I watched was called Warm Bodies. The story is about the zombie apocalypse, and how humans are trying to survive in the deadly world. After a zombie helps a human girl from a zombie attack, they suddenly spiral into a love romance that might solve the zombie epidemic.

I obviously came to watched Warm Bodies because I am a sap for love stories, and this movie was filled with me laughing in my chair, to “awwing” at romantic scenes, where they would have their special moment together. This was definitely one of my favorite movies last year, because of the originality. I don’t think I have ever seen a movie where the girl had feelings for a zombie boy too. Everything about the movie made you want to cry, laugh, and scream all at the same time. Overall, Warm Bodies was an excellent movie.

4. Now You See Me

The fourth memorable movie I watched last year was called Now You See Me. It starts out of four mediocre magicians who turn into the most recognizable magicians in the state. After expertly getting money from a bank half way across the world and giving them all to their audience in an amazing magic trick, an FBI agent and an Interpol investigate on how they could have gotten the money.

I thought that the movie was very action filled. I liked how the movie started off like an ending, and slowly retraced back their steps to the beginning of their fame as amateurs. The movies I usually watch are more scary or romance, but this was refreshing to watch. Action wasn’t really my type of movies, but this was one of my best action movies I had watched.

5. The Secret Life of Walter Mitty

The last movie I had watched before 2014 was called The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, starring one of my favorite actors ever, Ben Stiller as Walter Mitty. He plays a character that works for the Life magazine, and also a massive day-dreamer. After the company loses an important film for the cover of the magazine, Walter Mitty tries to get the picture, traveling all over the world to find the photographer of the lost picture.

In this movie, it definitely surprised me to how awkward and serious Ben Stiller was in the movie. As a kid, I always saw him as a funny character with a goofy personality. However, I thought Ben Stiller was perfect for this role. His acting when he was day dreaming was believable. I also liked this movie, because I am a big daydreamer, and I have always wanted to travel and go on an adventure.

Last year was awesome, but I hope this year will be even more better.
