On Feb. 28th the girls’ varsity soccer team took on the Granite Bay Grizzlies at home, beating them 3-1.
“We definitely wanted revenge,” Marissa Johansson said, remembering last year’s tied game.
Seven minutes into the game, Jessica Randhawa opened up the scoring with a cross on the ground to set the pace early. But two minutes later Granite Bay came back with a momentum swinging goal which set the score even 1-1.
In the 35th minute the team regained the lead with a free kick from Tara Armstrong which allowed the girls to end the half with a one goal lead.
“The goal came at a good time, because our team was able to gain momentum since we had the lead again,” Tara Armstrong said of the free kick that put the team back ahead.
Fifteen minutes after halftime they further secured their lead with a third goal from Ashley Hunter, making the score 3-1. After 80 minutes the girls defeated Granite Bay with a final score of 3-1.
Despite having few substitutes, the team was still able to beat Granite Bay.
“The game went well after looking at the results. I was very impressed with the fact that we had but two subs and we managed to keep Granite Bay on their toes,” Coach Ana Jones said.
Junior Marissa Johansson shared her thoughts about the game.
“Playing Granite Bay is always tough and I’m so proud of these girls for working as hard as they did to win the game,” Johansson said.
After beating out multiple high school teams to win a tournament in Woodland last weekend and a win over Del Oro on Feb. 26 the girls varsity’ soccer team is now on a five game winning streak.
As they go on a two game road trip the team will play at Bella Vista in Orangevale on Mar. 5th and Rocklin on Mar. 7th as they hope to carry their momentum from this win over Granite Bay.
