Every year over a quarter of a million people visit the Globe Theatre in London just during the performance season. This summer language arts teacher Mrs. Kimberly Karver has been given the opportunity to go to London to study at the Globe Theatre through a program called the Globe Education Academy with UC Davis. In this program, teachers go to the Globe Theatre to learn new hands on ways to bring the Shakespeare experience to life in their classrooms.
Originally, over 1000 teachers in the Northern California area applied for this program through a written essay Then, 32 were selected to be interviewed and 12 finalists were chosen to actually be able to go to the Globe Theatre this summer. Karver will be the first teacher from Rocklin Unified School District to have this opportunity.
Karver will be there for a two week period from June 15th through the 30th “I am looking forward to learning new techniques that I can share with fellow teachers in ways to make learning about Shakespeare more interesting and engaging for students.” Karver said.
In the fall, the teachers who participate in the Globe Education Academy will return to their school with a portion of a play to perfect. Each teacher and their students them come together in November to piece together the entire play. The play for this year that will be performed is Macbeth.
