After leaving the Galleria Mall, Natalie Nikdel and her brother, Sam Nikdel, received free Crumbl cookies just before they were thrown out. They drove around not wanting to go home, and by the time it was midnight, Natalie and Sam Nikdel wanted to get Crumbl cookies. Not knowing that the store was closing, they arrived, seeing employees carrying five party-size boxes of fresh cookies.
“My brother opened the window, and I said, ‘Are you guys going to throw those away? Can we have them?’ And the guy said, yeah, sure… it took us a month or two to go through them. We just put them in our freezer,” Natalie Nikdel said.
Founded in 2017, Crumbl is known for its unique desserts and weekly flavor rotations. However, some debate whether the cookies are worth the cost. Crumbl introduces six new flavors every Monday, starting at $4.99 per cookie and $8.99 for a Mini 3-Pack. Crumbl has a strong social media presence with over six million Instagram followers and nine million TikTok followers. It’s cookies remain a trending topic among social media users. However, Crumbl has faced criticism for its high-calorie content, prompting consumers to think twice before purchasing. To help decide whether Crumbl is a better option than visiting another bakery, I’ve ranked one of Crumbl’s weekly lineups based on quality, quantity, health concerns and cost.
- Peanut Butter ft. SNICKERS
This crunchy peanut butter cookie was topped with creamy caramel buttercream frosting, pieces of Snickers, and a drizzle of milk chocolate. Although it had Snickers on top, since it was featuring Snickers, its flavor should have been more prominent. There was a large amount for one cookie but not enough to be worth 800 calories. It was a delicious cookie; however, $4.99 is not worth it for a cookie, and it ended with a rating of 7/10.
- Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chunk
This chunky chocolate chip cookie was very crunchy and thick with flakes of sea salt. One of the best chocolate cookies I have ever had, this cookie had great quality and quantity, being very thick. The calories are worth it, however, 770 calories and $4.99 is just so much for one cookie. Overall this cookie ranked 8/10.
- Churro Cake
This chilled two-tiered fluffy cinnamon cake had creamy buttercream and streusel. It was very flavorful and huge due to its two tiers. Although 840 calories is a lot, it was double-stacked, which resulted in it costing an additional $1.49. $6.48 is too much regardless of the additional product since overall, it’s not worth it. This resulted in an 8.5/10.
- Chocolate Crumb ft. OREO
This warm Oreo-filled cookie had sweet vanilla cream cheese frosting and crushed-up Oreos sprinkled on top. The icing was delicious, especially paired with the cookie, and there was a large amount of both. Although it is one of my favorites flavor-wise, it is 830 calories, which is definitely a lot for a cookie. I give it an 8.5/10 rating.
- Sea Salt Toffee
This warm, savory, sweet cookie is filled with toffee and chocolate chips and topped with flakes of sea salt. It has a great depth of flavor, but you can’t really taste the sea salt. It is a very large and thick cookie, with 660 calories, which is a lot but the fewest on this list. However, it is pricey for a cookie, leaving the rating at 9/10.
- Brownie Batter
This warm dewy chocolate cookie was very rich and gooey when bitten into, and had semi-sweet chocolate chips and brownie batter. Each bite was rich and full of flavor, and it was a massive cookie, larger than average cookies. Although it was 690 calories, it was an enormous cookie and had less calories than most of the other cookies. This cookie was worth the five dollars since so much flavor was packed into each bite, leaving it with the highest rating of 9.5/10.
Although Crumbl’s desserts are too expensive, their cookies are of great quality and size and are worth the splurge.
