At The Grounds in Roseville, juniors and guests come together for Junior Prom from 7-10 p.m. The theme was “Starry Night” inspired by the Van Gogh painting “Starry Night.”
“We wanted a theme that we could come up with a ton of decor for, but also some sort of twist to it so that it wasn’t too basic,” Class Officer Julia Muldong said.
Setting up prom took seven hours total, from 4-8 p.m. Friday, April 19 and then 8-11 a.m. April 20. The event cost $13,000 in total. They spent $1,500 on flowers, $700 on tables and $1,500 for other decorations. The money came from fundraising from last year’s graduation, the junior class fundraised money from snack bar sales. They also did multiple restaurant fundraisers where they made around $500 each. A large portion of the money came from ticket sales itself. They made close to $20,000 in ticket sales.
“[We were] proud about it since we put months of work into prom,” Muldong said. “We were worried about if it was too much or too little but we felt that it was a good amount for the space we had.”
Class Officers were told by admin before planning the event that they had to keep their ticket prices affordable. Since they did not serve dinner, that factored into pricing which kept costs low.
Nathan Fulkerson said, “it was nice to get away from the gym [which was last year’s location.] I liked the price of the tickets, it wasn’t $100.”
