Tech rehearsals for Shrek the Musical run Feb. 29-March 5 to prepare for seven shows
With 19 songs in a two-hour show, “Shrek: the Musical” showcases four months and over 100 hours of rehearsals for both the Swamp and Duloc casts.
Auditions for the musical started Dec. 5, the full cast read through the script Dec. 11 and rehearsals started shortly after. Tech week began Feb. 29, so each cast had two full, five-hour dress rehearsals to figure out the lighting, sound, staging and how to time each set transition perfectly.
“One of the most stressful parts of putting together a musical is having to work through tech week,” Jayden Haas said. It’s incredibly stressful as we have to figure things out and as we try to get better at acting cues and set transitions. It’s a lot of trial and error and many mistakes get made but over time we can eventually get better and things can get done in time. It takes a lot of work as we try to figure things out but the experience of putting on a performance really makes it all worth it.”
