Staff members from The Roar sat down for an interview with swimmer Kaylee Ramos.
Q: What do you love about swimming?
A: I don’t know exactly what it is about swimming that I love, but I guess I just love being out in the sun during the summer.
Q: What are some of your biggest personal challenges?
A: My personal goal every time I swim is to get my technique better and, of course, to get a better time during whatever event I’m swimming.
Q: What was your proudest moment so far?
A: My proudest moment wasn’t exactly when I was swimming but when my coach told us (it was me and a few others) that we were being bumped up to Varsity, I was super excited!
Q: What’s your motivation?
A: I don’t have a huge motivation other than the fact that I love swimming, but when I’m older I’m thinking of becoming a rescue swimmer. So, if I get better now then I can save lives later!
Q: When did you start swimming? Where/why?
A: I started when I was about 5 years old. I was on the Rocklin Wave, a competitive swim team, and just really because my mom signed me up and I fell in love with it.
Q: Which races do you compete in?
A: I compete in mainly the 100 meter butterfly and 100 meter breaststroke.
Q: What’s your favorite part about being on the WHS swim team? Least favorite?
A: My favorite parts are being at the meets, cheering for my teammates, and of course, seeing improvements on my times.
Q: What are your future goals for swim?
A: I’m not sure exactly, but like I said before, I’m looking at becoming a rescue swimmer or some other kind of search and rescue in possibly the Coast Guard or Navy. So if I can continue to get stronger in swim, I know it’ll help me in the future.
