Q & A with CJ Louis

CJ Louis has been playing basketball for nearly eight years, currently playing on the men’s freshman basketball team here. His passion for the sport continues to grow, and he aspires to play for a college team in the future.

Q: What made you choose your sport, and for long have you been playing?

A: I started as a little kid when I was 4 years old and it was something my dad wanted me to get into. Then as I got older I grew into playing and loving basketball.

Q: What is a normal week of practice like?

A: Throughout the summer with the Whitney team, we had practice five days a week, Monday to Friday, from 8 to 10 in the morning. It’s a lot of work; we’re running drills and plays all the time.

Q: What position do you play?

A: I’ve always played as a point guard, and it has always been the position I wanted.

Q: How do you balance basketball with school during weekdays?

A: During school days I usually try to get things done while I can. It’s easier for me to just get it done at school so it gives me time to practice when I need it. If I get my work done, I can sometimes go to the park and get some extra practice in.

Q: Do you think you have a good chance of being on the school basketball team?

A: I’m pretty confident going into the team tryouts. I think I have a secure spot for the freshman team because I was the starting point guard over the summer during practices. Maybe I could get bumped up to JV.

Q: What is your end goal with basketball? Where do you see it taking you?

A: As long as I keep playing, I plan for high school basketball to take me to college basketball and play for one of the teams in Kentucky.
