‘PlayerUnknown’s BattleGrounds’ is a phenomenal hit but could be better
If you are looking for a realistic battle royale game, then “PlayerUnknown’s BattleGrounds” is the game for you.
The game, simply abbreviated as PUBG, is a multiplayer online battle royale game that can be described as 100 players all dropping onto an island surrounded by a massive body of water.
The objective of the game? To survive. Upon landing on the island, you can scour the myriad of uninhabited buildings, structure, and even family homes. You search until you find the necessary equipment, most importantly the right weapons, and fight until you, your duo, or squad is/are the last one standing. After you win, you are awarded with the popular phrase Winner Winner Chicken Dinner on screen. It fills you with satisfaction that you were the last one standing.
Two thing that players will have to worry about while playing is The Blue Circle and The Red Zone.
As the name implies, the Blue circle is a circle that closes in on the island that forces players into certain places that makes combat situations even more intense. Try not to be outside of the blue circle as you will take damage from it. Damage increases the smaller the circle becomes. But don’t worry, there is time in between the circle when it does not move so loot up while you can.
The Red Zone is one particular part of the map that is random every other couple of minutes that is a bombing zone that can eliminate you no matter how much health you have.
To help players deal with these certain zones, there are vehicles that allow players to get from point A to B.
PUBG features three separate game modes:
Solo, where it’s you vs. 99 other people. I play in solo more often than the other game modes mainly because my friends don’t own the game or are playing with other people.
Duo, where it’s you and a teammate fight the other 98 people. But this also means that the other 98 people have their own duos. So in the duos game mode, there are 50 duos all trying to win. As an added feature not available in solo, you have the ability to get revived and revive your teammates when downed by an enemy. It’s nice to play in duos once in a while because somebody else has your back and if you get downed, there is somebody there to revive you.
Squad, where your team of four take on the other 96 people. So in squads, there are 25 squads all trying to win. Squads also has the reviving mechanic. I like to play in squads every now and then because you have more people to cover you back but then you also have to worry about the other four man squads and if you wander off by yourself, you become a more of a target.
PUBG also has a mechanic of playing in different perspectives. Third person perspective and first perspective. You can either to choose to play in third person or first person along with the other players that will also be in the perspectives of third and first. I personally play in the first person perspective because it is almost like I’m in the game and it is not as game breaking as third person. In third person perspective, you can easily hide behind a wall or barrier and as soon as you see a person, you are able to shoot him/her without them being able to shoot back.
The idea of PUBG was created by Brendan Greene as a mod for the widely popular DayZ. In fact, DayZ was a mod for ARMA 3. So PUBG is a mod of a mod. The developers for PUBG is the PUBG corporation, a subsidiary of Korean publisher Bluehole. PUBG is currently available for Microsoft Windows, Xbox One, Android, and iOS. PUBG originally came out the PC as a beta on Steam’s early access program in March of 2017. After 9 months of the beta, players finally got a full version of the game Dec. 20, 2017. Xbox One users had gotten a version on Dec. 12, 2017.
By February 2018, the game had sold 30 million copies on Steam. A month after release, the Xbox version had sold more than four million copies and was the fourth best-selling game in the United States, according to The NPD Group.
PUBG is M for mature because of what the game’s objective is and surprisingly, PUBG has a rating of 6/10 in Steam. I personally find the game to be very enjoyable despite some of the glitches that the game has. It’s one of those games that you won’t lose interest in because every game is different from the last and there is variety of ways to win. This game will never get boring for me because there are endless ways to win as well I spend time just having fun while playing.
Recent updates to the game have been a brand new map for players to experience as well as fixes to glitches and lag reduction.
The game’s level of difficulty is really competitive because the amount if players it has. You are not going to be a pro your first time playing. The game will take time getting used to. When you have decent understanding of the game, you will find it to be a wonderful experience.
So consider grabbing yourself a copy of PlayerUnknown’s BattleGrounds; it’s worth it.
