Traveling to Seattle for the JEA/NSPA Spring National High School Journalism Convention, nine students represented Whitney High Student Media. For four days, they experienced Seattle sights such as the Space Needle, Pike Place Market, the Museum of Pop Culture and more.
The convention itself kicked off April 6 and included more than 3,900 attendees representing student media programs from all across the United States and even students from China.
Part of the convention included awards recognition as well. Whitney High Student Media accepted the First Amendment Press Freedom Award in the opening ceremony with 10 other national winners. At the NSPA awards ceremony April 8, they received a Pacemaker award for the 2016 Details yearbook as well as First Place for The Roar news magazine, Fifth Place for special edition and Eighth Place for yearbook in the Best of Show contests.
