In the wintertime, sometimes the fast food restaurants most of us count on just won’t cut it.
Boudin Bakery from San Francisco, famous for their sourdough bread, has a location in The Fountains. During the winter months they send out coupons out by mail, promising discount prices for all their soups and chili.
Boudin’s offers heartwarming, savory comfort food and of course their signature seasonal sourdough breads that come in stunningly realistic shapes like alligators, turtles, crabs and bunnies. The inside of the restaurant is inviting with a wall near the entrance featuring some of these beautifully crafted breads.
One of their most popular dishes is in one of their bread bowls. The beef or vegetarian chili is a filling meal and at only $6, it’s a good way to warm yourself up during the winter. The chili is prepared with chunks of beef, kidney beans, tomatoes, red onions and cheddar cheese sprinkled on top. The beef isn’t too chewy, it’s tender and doesn’t overpower the blend of spices. The sourdough bread bowl is a round loaf with the top of it cut out, they give you the top and with butter and it’s a nice combo. You get a lot of food for a really cheap price.
Another dish that comes in a bread bowl is the classic winter soup, New England clam chowder. The savory soup has a thick, creamy consistency with potatoes, clams, and parsley sprinkled on the top. The sour flavor of the bread is a perfect complement for Boudin’s clam chowder.
Boudin’s also sends out coupons by mail during the winter months for their bread bowls. The coupons are a buy-one-get-one-free deal, which is perfect for you or a friend to split the cost.
