Students talk about their experiences regarding Homecoming proposals
Breanna Eastlick walks out to lunch and is suddenly bombarded by her friends. She looks around quickly, confused as to why everyone around her is so excited. Suddenly, she is confronted by Jacob McMullen, holding a sign and flowers, asking her to the Homecoming dance. With the dance on Oct. 15, students ask their friends or significant others to go to with them as their date to the dance in creative and personal ways. Here are a few students talking about their experiences when being asked or asking their date to the Homecoming dance.
Sydney Schreiner
Q: Who asked you and how did your Homecoming date ask you? How was it personal?
A: Michael Hamp asked me at the end of the school day and got some of his friends to hold up four signs, and he stood by them with flowers! It was personal to me because it included some of our nicknames and inside jokes into the saying.
Q: Describe how you felt the moment he asked you.
A: I felt overwhelmingly happy and touched because I thought it was super cute how he asked me. I was super surprised! I am excited for our second Homecoming together.

Q: Who asked you and how did your Homecoming date ask you? How was it personal?
A: Jacob McMullen asked me. I’m really into musical theater, and each line on the poster was a song from each of my three favorite shows: “Hamilton”, “Tuck Everlasting” and “Finding Neverland”. It was so sweet how much he put into it to make sure I loved it.
Q: Describe how you felt the moment he asked you.
A: I was really excited because since we are dating I didn’t know if he would actually ask me. When he did, though, I was so surprised. I couldn’t stop laughing!

Q: How did you ask your date to Homecoming?
A: I created a poster that references where she works. She works at Belair, so I asked if I could “check her out” at Homecoming.
Q: Describe how you felt the moment you asked her and you saw her reaction.
A: She was definitely excited. I’m sure she saw it coming, but she was still very happy so I knew it was worth it. She didn’t really know how to act at first because there was so much excitement, she laughed a bunch. I thought it went great.
The 8-bit Homecoming Dance will take place from 7-10:30 p.m. Oct. 15 in the small gym.
